Tim Smart

Tim Smart is a trombone player, educator and workshop leader, and is extremely proud of his association with Magdala.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, Institute of Education and the University of Greenwich, Tim combines a busy and varied playing career with a number of educative projects, as well as engaging in research towards a PhD.

Tim's playing career includes live and studio work with a wide range of projects including The Specials, The Kooks, Elbow, Art Brut, Esser, Pendulum, the 747s, Toploader, The Go! Team, the Heritage Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Avenue A Ensemble, the Tom Richards Jazz Orchestra, the Gwilym Symcock Big Band, Down To The Bone, Afro Elements, the Bollywood Brass Band, the Grand Union Orchestra and Cheikh Lo. He also has musical theatre experience on La Cage Aux Folles (Playhouse Theatre, London) and Acorn Antiques (Haymarket Theatre, London) as well as a number of UK touring shows. He is also active as an arranger, with work for The Kooks, Cathy Davey, and the Wallace Collection.

In addition to his work for Magdala, Tim also leads workshops for the Grand Union Orchestra, the Education Group, and the Bollywood Brass Band, and has taught at FE level for Access To Music. 

Tim is delighted and proud to be an Affiliate of Magdala. He has worked on a number of Opera Start projects with Magdala over the last 7 years, including the Sutton Centre, Kirkby College, The Mulberry Bush School and on Vox Factor projects in Nottinghamshire, and is constantly amazed at the positivity and incredible professional results that young people can achieve with the experiences and support that Magdala offer.

He firmly believes that Magdala's work is of vital importance to both the music education community and, more importantly, the people that have the chance to participate in it. Tim is very much looking forward to future projects!!
