Josep Ribot

Head of Vocal Studies and Voice Teacher at the Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears and Professional Opera Singer.

Josep RibotBorn in Mallorca (Spain), bass Josep Ribot began his musical and vocal studies at the Conservatory of the Balearic Islands.  He sang several oratorio and opera roles as a soloist in Mallorca before continuing his studies at the Juilliard School of Music in New York where he obtained his Bachelor's of Music in 1997, in Edward Zambara's studio.

Right after finishing in the States he joined the "Centre de Formation Lyrique" of the National Opera of Paris where he first starting studying voice with Michelle Wegwart.  This same year he performed in Bastille's productions of Berg's "Lulu" and Massenet's "Manon".

In 2000 he interpreted the role of Don Iñigo Gomez from  "L'heure Espagnole" in a tournée of France with Jesus Lopez Cobos, then at the Bastille he formed part of the production of Prokofiev's "War and Peace" and at the end of the season he performed the part of Masetto in "Don Giovanni".

Past seasons have seen Josep singing Trufaldino from "Ariadne auf Naxos" with the Orchestre de Picardie all around France, Basilio from "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" in London, Hermann from "The Tales of Hoffmann" at Bastille, Zuñiga from "Carmen" in Genova at the Teatro Carlo Felice, Sarastro from "The Magic Flute" in Paris, Colline from "La Bohème" at Nantes, "Wagner" at Bastille", Bass soloist from "Les Noces" of Stravinsky at Garnier and formed part of the production of "Les Troyens" in Amsterdam.

In 2008 Josep was invited to take part in several productions at the "Liceu" of Barcelona and at the "Teatro Real" of Madrid such as "Il Corsaro", "Othello", "Tosca", "Macbeth", "Les Dialogues des Carmelites", "Don Carlo" and "Boris Godounov".
