Utilising An Interdisciplinary Community Approach

The launch of our first programme abroad "Utilising An Interdisciplinary Community Approach" took place in the summer of 2010 in France, creating a new forum for shared performance and teaching practice in difficult or challenging community situations.

This was the beginning of an international resource for projects to use artists and practitioners of international as well as local standing in a team structure. It drew participants from five European countries and holds an open door policy for anyone wishing to register an expression of interest.

For the first time for Magdala it was tied into a specific arts project for 2010/11 in the East Midlands "Musical Communities" utilising participants from acting, singing and teaching backgrounds in the delivery.

Summer 2011 saw the course advance into it's sixth year with two parallel groups of voice teachers, coaches and actors studying together.

The Magdala ethic is carried through by all participants on the course offering a free, high quality opera concert to the local French community which has proved a first time experience for many and makes a unique contribution to the local cultural life.
